FAQ’s

How do I obtain a Connecticut pistol permit to carry a handgun?
First you must be 21 years of age and complete a handgun safety course. After completion you go to your local police department and get an application. Once your application is approved you will be issued a temporary permit which is valid for 60 days. The temporary permit must then be presented in person to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) in Middletown CT who will issue a Connecticut Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers.

If you moved to another address within Connecticut you must contact the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit within 2 business days and notify them of the address change. If you moved out of state you can keep your permit provided you contact the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit as stated above.
